CHASS Connect: 2010-2011 Sequences

Arts of the Americas

Your year-long CHASS Connect sequence will analyze the artistic practices in Mesoamerica, the Andes, and Brazil. Be focusing on the Early Modern period (1300 – 1800 AD), a time of great growth as well as conflict, we will see how issues of ethnicity, nationality, religion, and warfare were articulated in ritual, performance, and making of space and place. Examples of artistic practices we will study include: writing, drawing, painting, music, performance, buildings, and cities.

Your sequence will fulfill the following 3College Breadth Requirements or graduation requirements: Fine Arts, Anthropology, Humanities (Art History, Anthropology, and Music).
