CHASS Transfer Pre-Mentorship Program (PSP) ACTION Summer Research Institute

The ACTION Summer Research Institute (Advancing Community Transformation through Inquiry and Opportunity) is a free, three-week summer program designed to prepare community college students for successful transfer to UC Riverside while introducing them to research at an R1 university.

Developed through a collaboration between CHASS F1RST and the UCR School of Education, ACTION provides participants with hands-on research experiences, faculty mentorship, transfer preparation, academic skill-building, and peer support. Through research and exploration of community-centered topics, students build confidence as scholars, strengthen their transfer readiness, and develop a greater sense of belonging within the university environment.

ACTION empowers future transfer students to recognize the knowledge, experiences, and strengths they already bring to higher education while preparing them for long-term academic, leadership, research, and professional success.

Program Details

Duration: 3 weeks
Meetings: Hybrid (weeks 1 & 3 are in-person & week 2 is on Zoom)
Activities: Workshops, panels, lectures, personal development, and more
Cohort Size: 15-20 Community College students
Completion Benefits: Certificate of Completion for resumes and applications

Eligibility

Currently enrolled in a Community College
18+ years old
Strong interest in transferring to UCR
No prior undergraduate degree

Program Requirements

Attend all sessions
Complete readings, assignments, and assessments
Develop a Transfer Application Planner (TAP) Account
Create a Vision Board & Reflective Journals
Final Project: Autoethnography Project
