CHASS F1RST – Program Coordinator and Program Coordinator in Training

CHASS F1RST First-Year Experience Programs support students in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences during their first year at UCR. Program Coordinator and Program Coordinator in Training are current undergraduate CHASS transfer students who are trained to support the Transfer Program in CHASS by analyzing the needs of transfer students to shape program offerings, designing, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating programs such as quarterly workshops and the Transfer Year Experience (TYE) Program, providing one-on-one office hours, and referring students to resources.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the CHASS Transfers F1RST Program Coordinator and CHASS F1RST Professional Staff, the Program Coordinator in Training will contribute to the success of transfer students through the following responsibilities:

  • Assess transfer student needs and implement initiatives such as quarterly workshops and the Transfer Year Experience (TYE) Program.
  • Provide dedicated office hours for TYE participants to offer support and guidance.
  • Offer academic, social, and personal guidance, referring students to appropriate campus resources.
  • Conduct recruitment efforts, manage program communications, and maintain engagement with TYE participants.
  • Work with CHASS Transfer student leaders, mentor Transfer Student Leaders, and facilitate staff meetings.
  • Organize and support events like Transfer Celebration, Transfer Orientation, Highlander Day, and Discover/Winter Admit Day.
  • Oversee program outreach via social media, email, and other platforms.
  • Develop presentations, manage administrative tasks, and ensure program success with minimal supervision.
  • Help create an inclusive and welcoming space for transfer students.

This role is ideal for individuals passionate about transfer student success and eager to develop leadership and program coordination skills.

Requirements
  • Attend a mandatory three-day orientation.
  • Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and remain in good academic standing.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the diverse needs of students from various racial, ethnic, national, political, religious, socioeconomic, academic, and identity backgrounds.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with students.
  • Work collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty partners.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Show the ability to support and respond to students in a helpful and empathetic manner.
